Grès

Madame Grès, a renowned couturière of the 20th century, once expressed her desire to be a sculptor, whether with fabrics or stones, highlighting her unique approach to fashion. Her creations were akin to works of art - traditional yet intricately pleated, evoking ancient Greek and Roman attire. In 1903, Germaine Krebs, later known as Madame Grès, ventured into the fashion world after exploring sculpture and millinery, establishing her brand as Alix Barton before adopting the name Grès in 1942. Famed for designing a collection in French national colors during the German occupation, Madame Grès later crafted her iconic fragrance, "Cabochard," in 1958, marking the inception of Parfums Grès. Despite selling her fashion and perfume houses in the 1980s, Madame Grès's legacy lives on through "Cabochard" and subsequent fragrance releases under the Grès label. Lalique, another illustrious brand, traces back its aromatic lineage to René Lalique, a visionary jewelry designer turned glass artist who revolutionized perfume packaging in the early 20th century. René Lalique's collaboration with perfumers, including François Coty, resulted in exquisite glass flacons that mirrored the scents they held and became emblematic of luxury fragrances. Following René's passing, his son Marc and granddaughter Marie-Claude honed Lalique's focus on crystal glass production and fragrance creation, culminating in iconic perfumes like "L'Air du Temps." Under Marie-Claude's leadership, Lalique expanded its repertoire to include a diverse range of perfumes, maintaining a balance between tradition and innovation. Today, Lalique continues to captivate with its timeless glass artistry and exquisite fragrances, embodying the spirit of reinvention and refinement set forth by its pioneering founder, René Lalique.
