In Cologne, the brand "Niessen, Maria Clementine" was established and officially registered on October 12, 1889 under the name "Maria Clementine Nießen" at Unter Taschenmacher 13. The founder, reportedly the wife of Carl Anton Nießen, née Schäben, later advertised the company as "Niessen, Maria Clementine" at Am Hof 26 in a Cologne address book in 1894.
Similar to the well-known Klosterfrau brand founded by Maria Clementine Martin, this perfume company also adopted a nun as its logo and chose the name "Maria Clementine" possibly inspired by the success of Klosterfrau.
However, the company's registration was eventually canceled on March 15, 1933.
