Shiseido, a renowned perfume brand, originated from a small Western-style pharmacy founded by former military doctor Arinobu Fukuhara in Ginza, Japan in 1872. By combining European pharmacy practices with traditional Japanese recipes and customs, Fukuhara created innovative products such as the first Japanese toothpaste in 1888 and skincare items in 1897. Transitioning into cosmetics in the early 20th century to align with evolving Japanese culture, Shiseido expanded its retail presence in 1923 and introduced a fashion magazine in 1924. After Shinzo Fukuhara took over from his father in 1927, the company continued to grow by establishing a loyal customer club in 1937 and going public in Tokyo in 1949. Shiseido has been operating in Germany since 1980. Catering to a diverse customer base, Shiseido offers cosmetics, skincare, pharmaceutical products like medical skincare and anti-aging formulas, and food items such as collagen drinks and weight management products. The brand's products are available in over 70 countries through its stores, beauty salons, cosmetic studios, perfumeries, beauty lounges in shopping centers, and luxury hotel wellness areas.
