Established on May 23, 1826, the brand "Klosterfrau" is renowned for its iconic melissa spirit, "Melissengeist", founded by the Annonciades nun Maria Clementine. Maria Clementine, previously known as Wilhelmine Martin, kickstarted her business in Cologne after her convent dissolved during secularization. She leveraged her nursing annuity to launch her line of Eau de Cologne, melissa spirit, and lavender water at her Cologne address on "Domhofsgasse No. 19". Maria Clementine's astute business acumen secured her the right to use the Prussian eagle for her products in 1829, granting her a competitive edge. Following her passing in 1843, the company passed to her apprentice Peter Schaeben, who evolved the brand as "Maria Clementine Martin, Klosterfrau". Despite financial challenges during the global economic crisis, the brand persisted. Eventually, the company was acquired by Wilhelm Doerenkamp in 1933. Presently, "Klosterfrau Zürich AG" or "Klosterfrau Healthcare Group", doesn't produce perfumes under the "Klosterfrau" brand.
