Established by David H. McConnell in 1886, the California Perfume Company (CPC) underwent a name change in 1939 and became known as Avon Products Inc.
Prior to this transition, the company had already been utilizing the "Avon" name and an initial logo. The choice of "Avon" is inspired by the River Avon, flowing through Stratford-upon-Avon in England, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, whom the company's founder deeply admired.
