The Different Company
The story of The Different Company dates back to the creation of iconic perfumes such as Bvlgari's "Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert" and Dior's "Fahrenheit." In the late 1980s, perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena discovered a novel combination of scents that recreated the essence of tea. Despite winning a bid with Dior for this unique creation, the brand ultimately opted for a different fragrance. Ellena's tea-inspired perfume found its way to Bvlgari and was initially intended for their boutiques as a room fragrance before being launched as an eau de cologne due to popular demand. Teaming up with bottle designer Thierry de Baschmakoff, Ellena decided to establish their own perfume house, thus giving birth to The Different Company. With a focus on using expensive natural raw materials to deter replication, the brand aimed to stand out from traditional perfume houses. Initially, Ellena was the sole perfumer for the brand, creating fragrances that defied current market trends. Following his transition to Hermès, his daughter Céline took over as the in-house perfumer, continuing the legacy of crafting unique scents. The brand also collaborates with perfumers like Bertrand Duchaufour and Emilie Bevierre-Coppermann for distinct fragrance collections. The Different Company remains dedicated to offering original and exceptional perfumes that break away from the norm.
